A Brief History: -

The Necrons are by far the oldest of races, ancient even compared to the Eldar. The Necrons are large skeletal warriors made of living metal that is capable of repairing itself. They wield incredibly powerful guns utilizing their Gauss technology. Unlike the younger races, the Necron gods are still alive, although there are only 4 of the C'tan left. 

At the end of their pre-historic war with the Old Ones, the C'tan were forced to retreat into their massive stasis tombs on worlds cleared of all life. This was due to the enslaver plague, which was destroying everything the C'tan fed off. Now, after their 60 million years of dormancy, the Necrons are beginning to awaken to a galaxy ripe with life, and war.
